What's the criff line?

The criff line is literally the continuation of cliff. Off course, its figure doesn't look strange in a local area, but if such a geometrical feature on a ground is observed, the ground would be a interested area of a view.
I took several photos for such a curious landscape.

The criff in a typical urban area.
Naturally, people made a stair to connect between upper area and lower area.

From the opposite side.
The criff was made by a river erosion.
Therefore, lower area looks like a kind of valley.

The criff line is a exit zone of  underground water.
Sometimes, we can see a small pond like this photo in the cliff line.

There are a shrine by the criff line, which worship water as the god.
It would be one of the typical example of nature worship by ancient people.
